Sustainable Tourism Development
To ensure that tourism in Rauma responds to changes in customer behaviour and remains attractive in the future, the overall planning and development of tourism must take into account nature, the economy, culture and the local community.
Benefits of Sustainability for Business
Environmental awareness among consumers and customers has grown dramatically in recent years. Increasingly, corporate environmental and social responsibility is influencing tourists’ destination choices and service purchasing decisions.
Embarking on a sustainable tourism development path offers tourism businesses a way to improve their competitiveness and differentiate themselves from their competitors. Sustainability also supports a company’s brand and image.
Integrating sustainability into business development is a way to improve cost efficiency, profitability and risk management. Reviewing and systematically monitoring energy efficiency and material flows helps to find cost-effective solutions and adapt to changing situations. Awareness and consideration of climate and environmental issues in business is often a prerequisite for tour operators when selecting their subcontractors and partners, or a criterion for obtaining funding for business development.

Sustainable Travel Finland Programme
The free Sustainable Travel Finland (STF) programme provides businesses with a toolkit for developing sustainable tourism, making it easier for them to adopt sustainability measures in their everyday business. Companies that have passed the programme and meet the criteria are awarded the Sustainable Travel Finland label, which is used to communicate sustainable practices to international travellers.
Companies awarded the Sustainable Travel Finland label will have access to a continuous development model, the latest information on sustainable tourism, marketing support and increased visibility in Visit Finland’s channels.
The STF Hub is a digital service to verify the steps of the STF pathway and apply for the STF label. To log in, create a Business Finland ID for your company. The first time you log in, you use the suomi.fi authentication service. Tourism operators in Rauma are encouraged to join Visit Rauma.
