Art Programme

Art acquisitions and the principles of their placement were determined by the Campus Art Programme. The Art Working Group was responsible for the implementation of the programme and the acquisition of art.

The working group consists of Risto Kupari, Director of Museums and Culture, Minna Linnala, an architect from the City of Rauma, and Marjo Heino, an art expert.

One of the ways of acquiring art on campus was through an open portfolio call, in which nearly 200 artists from all over Finland participated. The art team was pleased with the high quality of the works submitted. The portfolio search followed the rules of the Finnish Artists’ Association. A parallel sketch commission was also organised for the North Entrance Courtyard area.

Art will be on display on campus and there will be some fine work by many artists. Some of the works will take over a large space, capturing the viewer’s attention. There will also be small and complex works that may be installed in unexpected places.

The art can be seen in public spaces such as lobbies, corridors, staircases and meeting rooms at the Hj. Nortamo Primary School, Rauma Music Academy, the sports hall and the swimming pool. Particular attention was paid to art as part of the working process – hence the works of art in many of the offices.

Experimental sound works and a permanent media piece projected onto the façade are also interesting realisations.
