The sites are the Old Town Hall, the Rauma Art Museum, the Marela shipowner’s home and the Kirsti sailors’ and craftsmen’s home. In the immediate vicinity of Old Rauma, there is also the Potter’s workshop. In addition to the sites in the centre of Rauma, the City of Rauma manages the museum site Blacksmith’s home in Kodisjoki.
All museum sites have many stairs and thresholds. So far, our sites are not wheelchair accessible. Please contact the sites directly for further information or special arrangements.
Rauma Art Museum
The pink Pinnala main building of the Rauma Art Museum dates back to 1795. It is the first private stone house in Rauma. The courtyard is one of the best preserved in Old Rauma. It tells the story of the living environment of the city’s wealthiest merchants in the late 17th and 19th centuries. An art museum was opened in 1970. The museum site hosts temporary exhibitions of contemporary art.
Shipowner’s home Marela
Marela is the home museum of a wealthy shipowning family. It shows the life of the family in the early 1900s. Marela was owned by the Granlund family from the 1870s to 1906. There are also temporary exhibitions. The building has been a museum since 1982.
Old Town Hall (closed for the time being)
The site is closed for the time being due to a restoration project.
The museum has been located in the Old Town Hall since 1902. The building was completed in 1776. The lower floor originally housed the police station and the upper floor the city administration. There are two town halls from the 17th century in Finland, in Rauma and Porvoo, which have survived in their original state.
Sailor’s home Kirsti
Kirsti is the home museum of sailors and craftsmen. The site presents housing in Old Rauma from the late 19th century to the 1970s. The main building of Kirsti is one of the oldest buildings in Old Rauma. It was built as early as the 1700s. The whole town of Rauma in the early 19th century looked like Kirsti does today.
Potter’s workshop
The workshop of the potter Gustaf Löfman represents a long tradition of craftsmanship in Rauma. Löfman’s workshop was in operation from the end of the 19th century until the 1930s. The workshop produced brown oven coils, vats and small decorative objects. The rooms in the Savenvalaja apartment are decorated in the style of the first half of the 20th century.
Blacksmith’s home
