Student Welfare
Support Providers
Student welfare means encouraging and maintaining good learning, good mental and physical health and social well-being of the student, as well as activities that enhance the conditions for achieving these. Student welfare is regulated by the Student Welfare Act.
All schools have a number of student welfare professionals whose role is to support pupils and their families in matters relating to learning and school attendance. Student welfare is a collaboration of care and concern at both individual and community level, and a promotion of health, safety and well-being. This work is carried out in a confidential and, as far as possible, preventive way.
Student welfare is part of the work of teachers, who work together with pupils and families and with the school psychologists, school social workers and school nurses. It therefore includes, for example, health checks, meetings with school social workers and school psychologists, and regular community-based student support groups in schools.
Student support is a collaborative effort and individual support. Student welfare is managed in cooperation between the welfare district and the education provider. Individual support (nurses, school social workers and school psychologists) is organised by the Wellbeing Services County (hyvinvointialue) and community work by the education provider.
