Since 1.1.2024, when Rauma Pikkunorssi became a municipal daycare center, Rauma has had four private daycare centers and around 8 private family daycare providers.

Private early childhood education complies with the Early Childhood Education Act and the criteria of the curriculum, as does municipal early childhood education.

Service Voucher for Private Daycare

All private daycare centers in Rauma are service voucher daycare centers. In private day care, a service voucher is available, which is obtained from the City of Rauma.

• Ensure your eligibility by applying early enough, 2 weeks before the need in case of urgent employment, otherwise 4 months before the child starts at a private daycare center.
• The voucher is obtained separately for each child.
• Only families in Rauma can apply for a service voucher.
• There is no subjective right to a service voucher, so it is up to the city to decide whether or not to grant a service voucher.
• The service voucher is granted for a minimum period of one month.

How to get started

1. The family applies for an early childhood education place in a private service voucher daycare center.
2. Once the family has a place, they sign a written service contract with the service voucher daycare center.
3. The family applies to the city for a service voucher using an online application form. The applicant logs in to the service with a bank or business ID.
4. You must apply for the voucher at least 4 months before the start of care.
5. Sudden employment or start of full-time studies: application must be made at least two weeks before the start of care.

Decision on the Value of the Service Voucher

Depending on the daycare center, the cost of daycare for a family is either the same as municipal early childhood education or 10-20 euros/month more expensive than municipal early childhood education. The family will receive a written decision on the service voucher.

Duty to Notify

The value of the child’s service voucher is reviewed annually. For this review, the family is asked for income information. However, the family must inform the city on its own accord when

• family income changes by +/- 10%, for example due to unemployment or a change in employment
• there is a change in family relationships, for example a change in the number of family members
• a change in custody of the child
• a change in the family’s address
• a change in the child’s need for care
• the child’s early childhood education and care ends.

Municipal Supplement for Private Family Daycare

Private family daycare is supported by a municipal allowance. You can apply for private childcare allowance and municipal allowance from Kela.

In Rauma, the condition for receiving the municipal allowance is that:

• The child is in private family day care: in the family day care provider’s home or the family has hired a family day care provider at home.
• The child lives in Rauma.
• The child is cared for more than 25 hours per week.

Municipal allowance for private family daycare

Since 1.1.2018, it has been possible to receive a sibling increase in the municipal allowance for private family daycare, which will be up to €150 per month in 1.8.2023. The compensation paid to the service provider is proportional to the time the child is in early childhood education. The sibling increase is also granted to families whose under school age children are divided between private and municipal early childhood education.
