Beach at the Mantereenpää beach sauna.

The Etelä-Satakunta Environmental Health Service has decided to prohibit swimming in waters near the Mantereenpää beach sauna from Monday 29 July. The reason for this is elevated levels of enterococcus bacteria. The ban is in force until further notice and water quality will continue to be monitored.

The swimming ban can be lifted when the levels of both enterococci and Escherichia coli bacteria in two consecutive samples fall below the maximum levels set by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health.

Bathing in water contaminated with fecal matter is associated with a risk of illness. Various disease-causing bacteria and viruses may be present. Swimming in contaminated water can cause a stomach flu, skin infections or eye infections.

You can monitor the water quality of Rauma’s beaches on the Etelä-Satakunta Environmental Health Service website.
