The youth space on the Kari Kampus will open on Monday 2.9. The space is open from Monday to Thursday from 15 to 20.00 and is aimed at young people aged 13 to 17.
-We are delighted to welcome young people to enjoy our brand new youth space, which has been specially designed and built as a youth space. Every night there are two youth counsellors,” says youth counsellor Johannes Härkönen.
In the new space you can play pool, board games and do arts and crafts. Playstation 5 and Nintendo Switch game consoles are also available. The space is equipped with a kitchen island where young people can cook or bake with the counsellor.
-We also cater to young people’s wishes, for example, to buy additional games,” says Härkönen.
According to Härkönen, the youth room offers guided activities based on changing themes.
-Young people have the opportunity to participate in organising themed nights themselves or to ask the instructors to do something related to a specific theme or a general theme. However, you do not have to participate if you do not want to. You can always come to hang out and spend time, make new friends or wait for a hobby to start,” says Härkönen.
The campus youth space does not have a name yet, but young people can enter a naming contest as soon as it opens.
The youth space has its own entrance to the left of the main campus entrance. The space is also accessible via an internal passage near the main lobby. Härkönen reminds the visitors that the youth space is a shoe-free area, so outdoor shoes should be left in the lobby.
