Construction of the weather shelter for the Old Town Hall begins – traffic arrangements in the market square will change on March 3rd

A weather shelter will be installed over the Rauma Old Town Hall within the next month, leading to temporary traffic arrangements around the building starting Monday, March 3rd.
A section of the street in front of the Town Hall will be reserved for construction use, and both vehicles and pedestrians will be directed to use the side of Kauppakatu closest to the market square. These temporary traffic arrangements are expected to remain in place until approximately October.
Some parking spaces at the corner of Koulukatu and Kauppakatu will be removed to make way for a temporary traffic lane. Additionally, turning from Kauppakatu onto Isoraastuvankatu will be prohibited.
– We ask for the public’s understanding and, of course, caution when moving around the Town Hall area. During the summer, the number of visitors and events in the area increases significantly, and this has been taken into account in the construction planning. Our goal is to minimize disruption as much as possible under the circumstances, says construction engineer Mitri Vahamäki.
According to Vahamäki, the weather shelter will feature a printed, full-color image of the Old Town Hall’s façade. The image will be scaled as accurately as possible to match the building’s real proportions.
