President Alexander Stubb visited Rauma today, Wednesday, 26 March 2025. The visit started at the Rauma Shipyard of the shipbuilding company Rauma Marine Constructions Oy, where the President toured the shipyard’s production facilities and the construction of the first vessel of the Ostrobothnia class. The visit continued with an event at the Karin kampus together with students and teachers from the Hj. Nortamo school and a public event open to all citizens in the campus gymnasium. In the afternoon, the President’s program included a visit to the factory of Oras Oy, a manufacturer of water fittings.

The President passed the Rauma dialect test
Students from Hj. Nortamo Primary School had prepared a Rauma-themed program for the President together with their teachers. In the Rauma dialect study, the students puzzled over the meanings of Rauma dialect words. The President, who is known for his language skills, also recognized Rauma dialect words such as präntt, lyst, and syynät.
As a reward for a well-performed language test, the President was presented with a signed copy of Tapio Koivukari’s poetry book Se paat men jo. The students also gave him Rauma woolen socks as a memento.

The primary school students had also prepared questions. Among other things, they asked the President for his views on school meals and for his thoughts on possible challenges in school.
The President Stubb said that school meals were good when he was young and that the concept still works today. The President reminded students to make sure they get enough rest, exercise, and food – mind and body are interconnected.

The President encouraged the students to do the things that matter to them with an open mind, to dream, and to believe in what they are doing. The President said that success is not about wealth or titles, but about a happy and meaningful life – you don’t have to be an A student.
The global political situation and security as themes for the public event
The large sports hall on the campus was almost full to capacity when Jaakko Into and Vili Kemppi from Rauma Lyseo High School interviewed the President. The topics of the questions included the possibilities of influence and security in the current global political situation and the Europe of the future.
The president Stubb said that the key to foreign policy is to understand the realities. There are opportunities to influence, whatever the size of the country. The President encouraged people to believe in a better future and reminded them that today’s young people are building the Europe of tomorrow – they can make a difference.
At the end of the interview, the President was asked which team would win the Finnish ice hockey championship. The President hopes that HIFK will win, noting that Rauma Lukko will be a tough opponent in the semi-finals.
